Something crazy happened a while back, and I haven’t really taken an opportunity to talk about it.
You may have heard me talk about being an avid poster on the Reddit horror forum r/nosleep. This forum has over 13 million active members, which means a LOT of people could potentially see your story. Well, I posted the first part of a horror series on Nosleep back in December. It was about a search-and-rescue scuba diver who encounters a monstrous and evil conspiracy in his town. This was later adapted into Badwater, which is available for free on Amazon.
To my surprise, the story went viral. It ended up with nearly twelve-thousand upvotes (for reference, even the top stories on nosleep rarely exceed 5,000) and I was inundated with countless messages and comments asking for the next part. Additionally, I began receiving messages from people asking if they could narrate the story on YouTube or their podcast. This included one of my favorite narrators, The Dark Somnium, who has 250,000 YouTube subscribers.
Within a few weeks, it had grown even more popular as I released the subsequent parts, and I found that it had been translated into at least 10 different languages including Spanish, Russian, German, and Chinese. Furthermore, it appeared on a major Norwegian horror podcast. I was completely blown away by the response.
I was even more blown away when a man named Raxen Gautier-Hamel contacted me. He’s part of a film team in France who wanted to adapt my series into a film as their graduate project. Of course, I gave them permission to do so, and I can’t express how excited I am to see how it looks. According to Raxen, they’ll begin shooting in February 2021 and plan on releasing the film in summer of 2021.
Aside from some close friends, I haven’t told anyone about this project, but I just wanted to express how excited I am and how amazing the response has been. I never expected to gain such a massive following, and I look forward to writing even more stories that people love.
